miller defeated inu incumbt lisa murkowski co in the gop primary. with the latest details on this developing story here is casey stegall. >> murkowski taking a page from strom thurman's book. the only person in u.s. history to get elected to the u.s. senate as a write-in candidate and that was back in 1954. but murkowski is an incumbent seeking a second full term as senator. appointed to the seat in 2002 to succeed her father who went on to become the governor of alaska injuries she was reelected in 2004 but lost last month's primary to alaska attorney and fellow republican joe miller. it was a narrow defeat. which is one of the reasons for her decision to keep on plugging along in the race, this time only as a write-in. voters will have to physically write her name on a piece of paper come november in order for her to keep her seat. she says she has been hearing a lot from alaskans lately. >> lisa, please, please give us that choice because they told me we cannot accept the extremist views of joe miller and we cannot -- [ applause ] >> we can't. >> even the republican nat
nominee for the senate is tea party favorite joe miller. if you go to joe miller's campaign website right now, here's what you'll find. right at the top of the page there is a big banner that reads alaskans endorse joe miller. right next to alaskans endorse joe miller you will see images of decidedly non-alaskans. non-alaskan national conservatives. former presidential candidate mike huckabee, laura ingraham. if you click on endorse joe miller banner you find all sorts of endorsements again from people who are not at all alaskans. non-alaskan national conservatives. the first endorsement on the alaskans endorse joe miller page is minnesota congresswoman michelle bachman. the second is from the national conservative group freedom works. the next one is an actual alaskan, hooray, but most of the rest of the page is full of groups like the club for growth or conservative commentators like martha zoeller or eric erickson. in alaska joe miller is running a decidedly national campaign. he is touting all of these endorsements he's gotten from national conservative figures. he just puts them all

. paul wagner is live with more. paul? >> reporter: brian, the latest is that brandon miller was held without bond and as you mentioned, they did trace him to his house and this is with a lot of help from the community. they found tag number and got help with surveillance cameras. they found brandon miller and took him into custody and arrested his father, mother and sister. according to the charging documents found in the case, witnesses say two men approached the suv as it was parked in front of starbuck on u street. they had pistols and masks and opened fire into the car. jamaal coates was killed, shot three times and another man sign here was shot and wounded as he was being taken by the ambulance. within minutes, the police had the tag number of the suspected getaway car and trait traced it to an alley and that is the home of brandon miller, his father and mother and sister. after securing a search warrant for the apartment, the detectives went inside where they found five guns, three pistols, a shotgun and assault rifle and police arrested the parents and the father and sister a
